Ein Tag in Wellington, der Hauptstadt Neuseelands
Den heutigen Tag verbringen wir gemütlich in Wellington. Die wichtigstens Highlights der Stadt sind alle fußläufig von unserem Hotel aus zu erreichen. Da gibt es die Einkaufsstraßen Lambton Quay und Willis Street, das Te Papa Museum, die Cable Car zum Aussichtspunkt mit Blick über die Stadt, das neuseeländische Parlament…
Today we spend the day in Wellington. The most important highlights of the city are all within walking distance of our hotel. There are the shopping streets of Lambton Quay and Willis Street, the Te Papa Museum, the Cable Car to the viewpoint overlooking the city, the New Zealand Parliament…
Wir beginnen mit dem Te Papa Museum, ein sehr schönes modernes Museum. Hier gibt es jede Menge interessante Informationen rund um Neuseeland. Das Thema Erdbeben und Vulkane wir ausführlich bearbeitet. Eine kleine Live-Erdbeben-Vorführung ist die Attraktion.
Wir informieren uns außerdem über die Maori, Herkunft und Kultur in einem sehr schönen Ausstellungsbereich. Maori haben wir übrigens bisher, insbesondere auf der Südinsel so gut wie gar keine gesehen. Wir sind gespannt mehr darüber zu erfahren. Mein erster Eindruck ist, dass es sich hier um dasselbe Thema handelt wie überall wo sich weiße Siedler das Land einheimischer zu eigen gemacht haben. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Ländern bemühen sich die Neuseeländer heute, Unrecht wieder gut zu machen, Land und Eigentum zurückzugeben. Die Maori ihrerseits besinnen sich sich stark auf Ihre eigene Herkunft und Kultur zurück und versuchen, dadurch mehr eigenes Selbstbewusstsein und Wertschätzung zu erhalten. Ich stehe solchen Anstrengungen eher skeptisch gegenüber. Meiner Meinung nach trennt diese Vorgehensweise die Menschen eher, als dass es sie eint. Wir sind gespannt auf die Begegnungen, die noch geplant sind.
Mit dem Cable Car fahren wir auf den Hausberg. Wir genießen den wunderbaren Überblick über die Bucht und die Stadt. Zurück ins Stadtzentrum geht es zu Fuß durch den botanischen Garten. Unten treffen wir auf einen schön angelegten Rosengarten. Blüten in allen Farben … wunderschön, da muss ich natürlich dringend wieder Fotografieren üben.
Ein kleiner Rundgang durch die Stadt und am Hafen entlang, ein einfacher Imbiss … schon wieder geht ein Urlaubstag zu Ende.
We start with the Te Papa Museum, a very nice modern museum. Here you will find a lot of interesting information about New Zealand. The subject of earthquakes and volcanoes is dealt with in detail. A small live earthquake demonstration is the attraction.
We also inform ourselves about the Maori, their origins and culture in a very nice exhibition area. By the way, we haven’t seen Maori so far, especially on the South Island. We are looking forward to learning more about it. My first impression is that this is the same subject as anywhere else where white settlers have adopted the land of indigenous people. Contrary to other countries, New Zealanders today are trying to make up for injustice by giving back land and property. The Maori, for their part, have a strong sense of their own origins and culture, trying to maintain more self-confidence and appreciation. I am rather sceptical about such efforts. In my opinion, this approach separates people rather than unites them. We are looking forward to the encounters that are still planned.
We take the cable car to the local mountain. We enjoy the wonderful view over the bay and the city. Back to the city centre we walk through the botanical garden. Below we meet a beautifully landscaped rose garden. Flowers in all colours… beautiful, I have to practice photography again.
A small tour through the city and along the harbour, a simple snack… another holiday day is coming to an end.
