Toronto ist eine typisch nordamerikanische Stadt. Quirlig, lebendig, lärmend, ein bisschen verlebt. Wir haben nur einen Tag für Sightseeing zur Verfügung, klar dass wir nur einen groben Eindruck gewinnen können! Ich war ja im März schon einmal da und kenne die typischen Locations schon. Unser Hotel ist mitten in Downtown, ganz in der Nähe vom Dundas Square. Beste Voraussetzungen also. Eine Runde mit dem Hop on Hop off Bus und ein ausführlicher Besuch des ROM Royal Ontario Museum, der Hafen und der Destillery Dicstrict stehen auf dem Plan.
Ein Highlight ist die Bootsfahrt zu den Toronta islands … hier haben wir einen einmaligen Blick auf die Skyline … aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln, mit dramatischem Wolkenszenario – heute ist es den ganzen Tag schwül und gewittrig – ich schieße eine ganze Menge unvergesslicher Fotos.
Leider reicht uns die Zeit nicht, auch noch den Destillery Destrict zu besuchen … wir haben einfach morgens zu viel Zeit beim Frühstück im Loblaws verbummelt. Übrigens „Loblaws“ ein Supermarkt in der Carlton Street, den ich beim letzten Besuch im März schon kennengelernt hatte, fasziniert mich immer wieder auf Neue. Die Qualität der Lebensmittel, das Angebot an frischen Produkten, die Präsentation des Ganzen und vor allem auch die Sauberkeit! Etwas vergleichbares habe ich in Deutschland noch nicht angetroffen!
Am Abend dann das absolute Highlight unseres Toronto-Besuchs. Wir treffen uns mit Chris und Ihrem Mann aus Toronto und Anne aus Indianapolis zum Essen. Chris habe ich bei unsere März-Tour kennengelernt. Ich liebe es, Einheimische zu treffen und mehr über ihr Leben zu erfahren. Alle drei haben griechische Wurzeln, sind in der zweiten Generation in Kanada, verstehen sich als Kanadier. Das passt auch sehr gut zum gesamten Eindruck, den man hier in Kanada gewinnt. Auf das friedliche Völkermix ist man sehr stolz und steht dazu. Mir ist das sehr sympathisch. Ein unvergesslicher Abend.

Toronto is a typical North American city. Quirlig, lively, noisy, a little dirty in some corners. We only have one day for sightseeing, of course we can only get a rough impression! I was already there in March and already know the typical locations. Our hotel is in the middle of downtown, very close to Dundas Square. So the best conditions. A round with the Hop on Hop off Bus and a detailed visit of the ROM Royal Ontario Museum, the harbour and the distillery Dicstrict are on the agenda.
A highlight is the boat trip to the Toronta islands … here we have a unique view of the skyline … from different angles, with a dramatic cloud scenario – today it is humid and thundery all day long – I shoot a lot of unforgettable photos.
Unfortunately we don’t have enough time to visit the Destillery Destrict … we just spent too much time in the morning having breakfast in the Loblaws. By the way „Loblaws“ a supermarket in Carlton Street, which I had already met during my last visit in March, fascinates me again and again. The quality of the food, the range of fresh products, the presentation of the whole thing and above all the cleanliness! I haven’t found anything comparable in Germany yet!
In the evening the absolute highlight of our visit to Toronto. We meet Chris and her husband from Toronto and Anne from Indianapolis for dinner. I got to know Chris on our March tour. I love meeting locals and learning more about their lives. All three have Greek roots, are in their second generation in Canada, see themselves as Canadians. That fits very well to the overall impression you get here in Canada. They are very proud of the peaceful mix of peoples and stand by it. I like that very much. An unforgettable evening.
